What do you mean a DeMoole horse is doing halter shows now how dare he //shot

Mr. Moo needed a break from showjumping for a little white so here's something before he goes back to Vechnyy

~~~
For a horse with such an impressive show record, Home of deMoole had yet to be entered in a class that wasnt ridden. Seeing as both his dam and granddam were imported directly from Ireland he seemed the obvious choice for an Irish Jubilee competition and was immediately entered. Gold and green looked great on the Irish Sport Horse and he had more than earned his break from jumping so Jakobi reluctantly agreed to the halter show. His new decorative tack having been sent ahead of him, the stallion was packed up and shipped off to the newest farm.
The beast himself seemed to love being surrounded by the celebration of Irish culture but Jakobi was beyond wary of the shamrocks and Celtic Knots. In his defense, he had only learned how to correctly pronounce 'Irish' two days ago, French being his first language, and being from Polynesia knew only of the blatant racism in Ireland. Arriving at Dry Gulch his fears were put to rest upon meeting the other entrants and owners and discovering how good-natured the group was, but manifested in a different way when Dante sent him a picture of the complicated Celtic braids he was to put in the stallions mane and tail.
They'd arrived the night before the actual show so Jakobi had plenty of time to get Moole settled frolicking in a pasture- not even bothering to initially groom the horse seeing as he would've ended up filthy anyway. The stallion galloped away gleefully, as usual setting out to torment the other horses in the field and his rider turned back to head to the entrants building. After contemplating quitting the stables for the amount of work the hairstyles would be  Jakobi downed a few shots and set out to practice the braids in his own hair. Being black he was beyond used to neat and time consuming braids so he had the obvious advantage for this style but gave up after a few tries, concluding that it would look better in the horses straight hair, choosing instead to wander out to get to know the other handlers better.
As Jakobi had expected most of them had heard of the grey stallion or the DeMoole bloodline but these horses competing in anything less than eventing was almost unheard of. Slushie, the overdramatic Obertaurer mare, had actually entered the very same Jubilee the previous year but with her only handler away it was out of the question to bring her back. As in this show, Jakobi recognized a few of the other handlers from either affiliated stables or previous shows and greeted them accordingly, spending the rest of the night milling about and making friends.
The day of the actual event, Home of deMoole was nothing if not consistent. He'd never been one to stay still and even during his bath he was sashaying in a circle, determined to make it impossible for the man to wash him properly. His whiskers and ear fuzz had been promptly shaved away pre-bath and the look of a clean cut Moole was a sight for sore eyes. Since show jumping wasn't scored on appearance beyond proper tack and attire, the grey had only been clipped twice in his life and both as a yearling, so he wasn't exactly fond of the buzzing in his face or the grooming to follow, but trooped along with the hope of treats.
He was, however, very fond of the in-hand grazing that doubled as a drying period, happily munching away as Jakobi trimmed his mane and tail and set out to style the shaggy mess. Keeping the horses tail still turned out to be the biggest challenge but his tail ended up plaited without much hassle,  the complicated loops set in place with some hairspray and patted confidently. Jakobi had managed to find a tutorial for the mane and though Moole wasn't pleased that his breakfast was interrupted, the horse was settled in the stables with some hay, his neck at realistic braiding level.
With all the bareback work done at the stables, the stallion was far more used to having his mane handled and calmly munched away, Jakobi wincing every time he swished his tail, checking to see if the style had stayed.  Since they rarely braided his mane for anything it was strange to see it up off his neck, but with his long, floppy forelock sprayed over his eyes the stallion's image quickly returned to his ridiculous normal self, snorting into his water bucket and clacking his shoes on the walls.
The strange straps and chains on the halter awaited and Jakobi studied it, befuddled. Thanks to the figure-eight bridle the sport horse was typically ridden in he was used to straps across his face but that never meant the person with thumbs would understand and he definitely didnt get this. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen, obviously a somewhat ancient medieval bridle, or was it a halter? There was no place for a bit and the noseband ended abruptly, the man guessing you were supposed to thread a stud chain through the bottom.
After about 15 minutes of constantly jingling and swearing, the contraption was on the stallions face. Complicated as it was, Moole looked almost regal in the black and gold. Almost. He was still flapping his lips like an idiot but once he was in an arena the horse typically sobered up for his job so he was allowed to goof off as much as he wanted outside the ring.
Satisfied that all his hard work wasn't going to fall apart with the shake of a head, Jakobi gave the horse one last brushing, half listening for the start of the class to be called. It was a subtle thing, as with all greys, but the man noticed Moole has gotten lighter. The harsh black fleabites that had dotted his coat when Jakobi had first started working with him were all but gone, replaced by soft dappling. Seeing as he was already 8 years old it had been a debate between the staff on whether the horse would fully grey out and it appeared that it was finally happening. His sire and grandparents all stayed grey for the remainder of their life but the horse had come to them almost as light as they were in their old age.
A booming halter announcement snapped him out of his thoughts and Jakobi clipped the lead onto the stud chain he was pretty sure was supposed to be there. Leading the now strutting stallion out of the stall, the man reached down and snagged a few shamrocks, tucking one behind Moole's ear and placing the rest in his hair and pocket, taking their place in line, the stallion nickering at everything that moved.
